Freedom Arts Festival 2024

Saturday, October 26, 1pm-4pm

Join Sidewalk Detroit at Eliza Howell Park (by the Stick Sculpture) for an evening of performing arts celebrating freedom and justice through powerful performances. Enjoy pumpkin carving and painting, plus a compost demonstration. Apple cider and donuts will be provided.

Our secondary rain location is Brightmoor Artisans Collective at 22735 Fenkell Ave, Detroit, MI 48223.

Enjoy performances by:

King Sophia, a multidisciplinary storyteller and world-builder. They’re also an electric guitarist, vocalist, conductor, educator, disc jockey, poet and well-rounded creator with roots in many genres from blues to bossa nova to avant-garde.

Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit is one of Southeast Michigan’s most highly regarded cultural treasures. Its critically acclaimed youth ensemble performances and national and international tours have brought worldwide attention to Detroit as a center for arts and culture while spotlighting the area’s talented young people and creating new and diverse audiences for the performing arts.

Flip the Switch 529, an organization dedicated to nurturing Detroit's youth artists led by Imani Ma’at AnkhmenRa, a passionate arts advocate. Imani teaches traditional West African drum and dance citywide, helping young people connect with their cultural roots.

A variety of refreshments and fare will be available for purchase.

Songs of Freedom is part of Detroit Parks Coalition’s Freedom Arts Festival 2024 featuring music, dance, storytelling and art reflecting Detroit’s multicultural tapestry. With support by the Knight Foundation and the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, the festival series brings together freedom, racial justice, history and connection to place through arts and culture.
