Social Media and Communications Specialist- Contract Position
About:
Sidewalk Detroit exists to advance public life and strong social infrastructure through the lens of arts, culture, collaborative design and deep engagement with residents. Sidewalk engages in culturally specific work by curating original place-based performance, installation, and visual arts. Additionally, we facilitate collaborative engagement with residents around new public and private developments in their neighborhoods, putting them at the forefront of the development and design process. Lastly, we steward and advocate for green space and green equity within parks and greenways - seeking to develop plans and infrastructure improvements in these places that are specifically geared towards the needs, dreams, and concerns of long-term residents.
Summary:
The Social Media and Communications Specialist will manage the day-to-day operations of Sidewalk Detroit’s communications activity and strategies for all projects. This includes managing all social media accounts, keeping the website current, and composing the email newsletters and reports. The Social Media and Communications Specialist is also responsible for creating original content, audience engagement, assisting with overall brand identity, and managing a content calendar for all of the programs and events.
Duties:
Lead and develop a communications strategy
Work collaboratively with team members and clients
Develop and implement social media strategy to align with vision and mission
Generate, edit, publish, and share engaging content daily (e.g. original text, photos, videos, and news)
Manage all social media channels including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other relevant platforms
Communicate with external contractors for website updates and assistance, etc
Lead Newsletter - compile content from team leaders and organize
Stay up-to-date with current technologies and trends in social media, design tools, and application
Attend regular in-person staff meetings
Attend in-person events on evenings and weekends
Organizational Culture:
Participate in company think tanks and strategy sessions as needed
Highly collaborative and supportive team
Two in-person office days include Tuesday and Thursday
Qualifications:
A love for brand and identity development, social media, basic web development skills, and interest or experience in arts and culture
Excellent organizational and project management skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Proficiency in Google Suite, Vimeo, and Canva or other graphic design software
Proficiency in Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and other social media platforms
The ability to deliver graphic design content is a plus (image, text, video)
Beginning May 2025 for approximately 15-24 hours per week.
$23/hour
