Brown on Green

About

Big Red Wall Dance Company will present an original, place-based performance work within Detroit’s 250-acre Eliza Howell Park in September 2019. The project explores the Black female body’s relationship to Detroit’s green-spaces, as well as issues of security and safety in public space.


Guest Artists :
Bree Gant presenting Otherlogue (III): a suite of performance installations from Detroit-based, multidisciplinary artist bree gant, exploring the relationship between ritual and mental health for Black womenfolx, in both public and private spaces.

Penny Godboldo Institute Performers will present a structured Improvisational dance study set to original music by Mahindi Masai in which the dancers investigate the environment through the lens of nature's creatures. Inspiration for this work is garnered from the beautiful Eliza Howell Park's natural environment, a water altar by visual artist Bree Gant and choreographer Penny Godboldo's love of seeking ways that we can successfully coexist with the natural environment.

The Nina Strings is a woman-centric strings ensemble with fluid personnel and instrumentation. Led by violinist Michelle May, the group explores diverse sounds across multiple genres, including a repertoire of original music.
