2:00 – 5:00 Paper Making
The Invasive Paper Project travels throughout Detroit and beyond to offer paper making workshops with invasive plants (like Phragmites, Honeysuckle, Garlic Mustard) that have been removed from city parks and green spaces to different communities. This project creates awareness around invasive plant species and their effect on our ecosystem, but more importantly it provides an opportunity to think about invasive plant life differently. While we need to focus on eradication, we can also experiment with new uses and products from these noxious weeds. This project is challenging those who participate to come up with some new ideas. Taught by Megan Heeres and students from Cody High School

2:00 – 5:00 Tree Sculpture
Sabrina Nelson will guide the painting and assemblage of willow tree teepees andtotems. The workshop will focus on how the activity is a way to honor and reconnect with Eliza Howell Park’s beautiful ambiance, sounds, textures, and colors while infusing empathy, positive words, and visions of joyful adventures. Taught by Sabrina Nelson

3:00 – 6:00 Rock Painting
Live Coal Gallery will create a nature-based design installation using rocks. Rocks will lead to the bottom parts of trees where mini nature-based installations will have been created by children and discovered by guests who follow the trail of rocks. Artists will lead participants in adding to the rock design installation using layout design and colored rocks. There will be an area where guests can paint their own rocks using orange, green, and gold. Participants can bring these home. Taught by Yvette Rock

3:00 – 4:30 Remembering That We Are Nature, Too
A workshop offering gentle, guided movement exercises and opportunities for writing or drawing. We will explore the delicate and vital web of our skeletal system and our relationship to the trees and land. All bodies welcome! Taught by Stefanie Cohen

The chimes are made in pairs, so a person can pick up or pass the chimes, they can use more than one pair of chimes. The fun is in figuring out how to get them to chime, and to hear the symphony that is created by all the ‘chimers’. Led by Kathy Leison
